With the news recently that the former exclusive KITT voice was coming to other GPS devices, we started to wonder what was next for our friends at Navtones. When we first heard what that was, our first thought was "of course!"

David Hasselhoff, Mr. Michael Knight himself, was in the Navtones studio last week recording his dialog for his GPS voice and hopes to be as "irreverent and funny" as he is. It should be available as a downloadable add on to your TomTom or Garmin device. He posted this clip to his HoffSpace blog.

Also be sure to check out this fantastic clip we were very shocked to find in our mailbox, as special shot out from David to all the Knight Rider fans on knightrideronline.com! Thanks David, and thanks Navtones!

Remember, there is still time to get your voice added to the KITT release for TomTom and Garmin, visit navtones.com to add your name considered to be personalized.

Another clip with David recording is after the jump.

Tomorrow Premiere Props and Picture Car Warehouse will be holding the Massive Car and Movie Prop Auction, featuring items from a large selection of Movie and TV shows, including the Knight Rider. Featured in the auction is a 1991 Dodge Stealth, which was converted into the Knight 4000 for the Knight Rider 2000 movie. It doesn't specifically say if this was a screen used vehicle, and if I was a buyer, I'd like some assurance of that. The auction listing does mention that the dash was used in the Buck or cut away car, which is used to shoot closeups on a sound stage.

In addition to that is two 1969 Mustangs, which were used in the episode Fly By Knight.

The auction is this Saturday, August 15th at Los Angeles Center Studios, at 450 S. Bixel Street, Los Angeles, CA 90017. There will be a preview of the items, though we are told the Knight 4000 will NOT be on location, beginning at 9am till 11am. The auction itself begins at 11am. If you can't make it down you can bid via icollector.com or by phone. More information is available at the Premier Props website.

For more information on Ted Moser of Picture Car Warehouse, check out our interview with him, where we talk about his involvement with the Knight Rider 2008 Telefilm.

We hope to have more directly from the auction itself by the end of the weekend, so check back!

UPDATE: You can see Sue's report from the auction on our video page!

Last week we mentioned that Deanna Russo was auctioning off autograph posters via twitter signed by Justin Bruening and herself. KARR Conceptual Art 1

John Eaves, best known as a designer for Star Trek creating the look for vehicles like the Enterprise E, shares an interesting story on his blog today. If you hadn't known, John was tapped by Richard Toyon the production designer of Knight Rider 2008. His task was to design the transforming version of KARR that was created for for Knight to King's Pawn.

Last year the old “Knight Rider” TV show from the 80’s was re-invented and had a short one season run as a new series, and sadly it died away right when it was getting it’s bearings and the cast was getting into their roles. During that time I got a call from Richard Toyon, the production designer on the show to come over and work on the Karr designs with him!! It was great fun to work on an old favorite show, and it was a treat to work with Richard.

Be sure to visit John's blog Eavesdropping with Johnny for an interesting story and additional conceptual sketches.

Today sees the release of Knight Rider (2008), Season One on DVD. This four disc set contains the original Pilot from February 2008, as well as all 17 episodes that aired from September 24, 2008 till March 4, 2009.

    Knight Rider 2008 DVD

    Overview
Originally aired in February of 2008, the "back door pilot" was watched by over 12.7 million viewers. Set in real time, of 25 years later, we find Charles Graimen (a never known creator of KITT), being pursued, which activates the Knight Industries Three Thousand, or KITT, so that it can secure Sarah, Charles's daughter, and do what is necessary to protect her and the secrets she might be able to provide.

In September of the same year, Knight Rider returned to series form. Gary Scott Thompson (of Las Vegas and Fast and the Furious fame), came aboard as showrunner to inject adrenaline into the pilot, and transition it to episodic television. Originally approved for 13 filmed episodes, news was received on October 4th that four more scripts had been requested by NBC, and by Oct 21st they had approved a full season order.

As the show changed from the pilot to series, several characters were lost, while others were gained. The small team on the run, had turned into a larger government organization in a bunker in the middle of nowhere. What they lacked in dirt and grit, they more than made up for in flash and amazement.

The episodes themselves start out as a larger seasonal arch, with a story line that was supposed to carry on throughout the season. This was a departure from the original's "self contained format", a change some welcomed, but it didn't stay that way for too long. Sub-plots containing Mike's lost memory were quickly cut from the episodes for being too graphic, and shoved online for not many to see.

With complaints of too many characters vying for screen time, and NBC failing as a network to attract any viewership for any series, thus cutting many executives on staff, a change was needed. The format shifted in brilliant form back to the Knight Rider theme of old, by "offing" several of the main cast members, and blowing up the large government organization.

This new direction, with a renewed focus on the core of Knight Rider's vision of one man making a difference, began to see the ratings improve. But it was too little too late. In December, with new management in power at NBC, production on Knight Rider shut down at the end of it's 17th filmed episode (which aired 13th), a reduction from the 23 that were promised.

While many of us fought on to have this version of Knight Rider rise again, the future is still unclear. But with this release, we get to hold onto it a little more.

For the last several months, our very own Sue has been hard at work with a new project she's been spearheading for the new January 2010 series "Human Target"

Human Target Online, has quickly become an amazing portal for all things Human Target. From the original appearance in Action Comics in 1972 to the more recent ABC series in the 90s, the graphic novels and now the Fox series, it's all there. Sue herself was at Comic Con this weekend, and got some great exclusive content in the form of pictures, videos and more.

Whether you're a fan of comic books, good scripted drama, classic sci fi like the A-team or Knight Rider or if you still remember the short lived 1992 series fondly. Fox's new take on Human Target promises to please.

Be sure to check out Human Target Online as we continue to ramp it up for the January premier!

As we have mentioned in the past, the new sound stage for the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien was actually used for the original Knight Rider. Before the move, Conan mentioned this, and we knew it was only a matter of time before he did so again post move.

Last night Conan introduced "Gabriel" using the "Knight Technology" left in the studio, and as you can see - they're already butting heads.

Yesterday, David appeared on the Mix 94.1 morning show "Mark and Mercedes In The Morning" to promote America's Got Talent. He briefly touched upon the Knight Rider series saying that it "ran its course" but that he hopes that Glen's movie does well and that he can be involved if "only to make sure it's done right". You can listen to the entire interview here.

jackson_kitt.jpgNearly two weeks ago, the world lost Michael Jackson suddenly. We wondered if the two ever crossed paths, where both Knight Rider and Michael Jackson were hugely present in the pop culture of the '80s.

Some fans, including us, remembered an image with Michael Jackson on the hood of KITT but were unable to track it down. In it, we see Michael, and his brothers of Jackson 5 fame, on top of their respective cars, with Michael sitting on KITT!

Thanks to Paul of Knight Rider Archive (who always does amazing historical finds for Knight Rider), he was able to track down these two images, and is working to track down the rest of the story behind them. It's common for photographers to take dozens of rolls of film to get that one perfect shot, so hopefully the photographer still has the negatives from that session.

    jacksons1.jpg

If you have any information to help track down either the Photographer or how Michael Jackson came into possession of this KITT, please let us know in the comments below!

As he is finally laid to rest today, we wish his family and him peace.

David Hasselhoff had a busy week this week while visiting South Africa. You might have caught him saving the sharks in his public service announcement that was, ehem, replayed on The Tonight Show withConan O'Brien (click to watch).

But the Knight Rider star was soon to discover that even in South Africa he could not escape his loyal friend KITT as car owner Reynard Botha tells.

Last week was very busy for me as I was trying to get my car and myself ready to meet the Hoff. Yes the real Michael Knight. err David Hasselhoff.

JacarandFM contacted me and asked my if I can bring KITT to Monte Casino as a surprise to David while visiting SA to sing a Duet with Patricia Lewis an old friend and ex-girl friend to David. The schedule was jumped by a few months in order for the song to be completed before Patricia is to be operated for tumors on the thyroid, and operation that might render the blond super voice of South Africa quite forever. Well I certainly hope not, I wish Patricia all of the best for the operation.

Well back to the Hoff. What a nice guy, looking back on track with his life and a pleasant celeb to meet. He chatted with me about my car and told e about his own. He played out a little scene with my KITT in the car and signed my car and my owners manual that I wrote for the car. He posed for some pictures with me and also did a host of other interviews for the event, he then sang a song on stage and also did a round of signatures for the crowds.

We've heard a little update from MasterKey, the amazing team behind the effects of the new Knight Rider series. They were featured in an article from Variety focusing on VFX Emmy Contenders:

Another entry in this year's race is NBC's "Knight Rider" and its battle between hero car K.I.T.T. and evil K.A.R.R.

Master Key VFX, which created the sequence, also gets enormous creative control and relies on small teams.

"It allows them to know how everything is connected," says Elan Dessani, effects producer for "Knight Rider."

Master Key was able to choreograph the K.I.T.T. vs. K.A.R.R. battle to put the focus on the cars, keeping the fight in one location so artists would only have to create one background landscape.

"We didn't expect to have that much power, but because we had proposed this larger sequence, (the showrunner) let us go," Dessani says.

Be sure to visit MasterKey's website where they've just relaunched their site, complete with a new reel that focuses on some of their post Knight Rider works. Also check out our time with them over the last year.

Air Force big wigs must have been impressed with Galpin Auto Sports flashy new mustang KITT. The airborne branch of our military called up Galpin and placed an order. The result, a Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger tricked out like KITT.

“For Galpin Auto Sports to be commissioned by the most technologically advanced organization on earth is truly an honor” Boeckmann said in a statement. “This is one of the most extraordinary and important projects that we have ever done.”

    wired.com reports...

First up is the matte-pearlescent white Mustang dubbed X-1. The name is a nod to the Bell X-1, the first aircraft to exceed the speed of sound in level, controlled flight. This car won’t approach that kind of speed, but with a 500-horsepower V8 under the hood, it’s quick enough to keep you entertained. Lift those scissor doors and prepare to drop your jaw - either in awe or dismay, depending upon your point of view. The interior looks like it was lifted from an F-15. Design details include a single-driver ejection seat, flight stick and, of course, night and thermal vision and GPS.

And then there’s the matte-black Challenger codenamed “Vapor.” Stealth could not be a more appropriate descriptor for this menacing car, which Galpin says uses radar-absorbing paint and a “stealth mode” exhaust that lets the car run silently. We swear we’re not making this up.

Cool exterior details include biometric latches on the scissor doors, proximity sensors and a roof-mounted camera with a range of 1/4 mile. The exterior was wrapped in a custom body kit and carbon fiber trim. Even the wheel covers are carbon. Like the Mustang, the Challenger got an fighter-inspired interior with aircraft-style controls, a passenger steering wheel and night and thermal vision and GPS gear. We love the shift lever, but we’re curious to know why Galpin didn’t say anything about what’s under the hood.

It also didn’t say how much it charged Uncle Sam to build these wild rides

The Daily Mail reports of a new driverless vehicle soon to hit the streets at London's Heathrow airport.

    CyCab.jpg
Developed by French company INRIA over 10 years, the Cycab looks like a futuristic golf cart. It uses a laser to avoid obstacles in its pathand a dual-lens camera to follow road markings. It can even be navigated from a mobile phone.

Each CyCab also communicates via the internet. This means that the vehicles can share information so that they can follow one another at a small distance, or surf the web and gather real-time traffic information so that they can avoid traffic jams.

An automated voice gives information to passengers along the route, much like the KITT car from the popular TV series Knight Rider, which starred David Hasselhoff.

    driverless.jpg

The British version of these cars, set to be activated in November, have a sleeker design than their predecessor. But incorporate the same technology. The top secret GPS tracking system that allows these cars to be a reality is the same GPS technology that guides cruise missiles within hairs of their target. Most consumer grade GPS devices are purposefully made to be mush less accurate.

But if military grade technology and computer chips driving your car has you a little on edge; it might be reassuring to know that like KITT, the Cycabs will have a manual override that can be activated by entering a code.

The only thing Advanced Transport Systmes Ltd, the car's maker, has left unanswered about the car is the chemical compound of its outer shell.

Phone Rider is a neat little app, available from Apple's App Store for $0.99.

This app does one thing, and does it quite well - take the audio from your microphone and symulate it through a voice modulator interface that echos either of the Knight 2000 interfaces or KARR. It's really quite slick, with custom graphics that echo the Season 1 & 2 dash.

Check out our quick video review above. First 15 people to comment on this post with a valid email address will receive a free copy of this app, courtesy of p13development!

As we mentioned last month, Knight Rider Festival is set to return to Las Vegas on March 19th and 20th, 2010. The Festival and artist Nick Nugent have finalized the design for this years logo. Check it out above and visit the Festival website for a pretty slick animation.

In the months ahead, as the preshow preperations begin, we will be sure to keep you updated on Knight Rider Festival 2! In the mean time, check out our pictures and videos from this years event.

Universal's historic sound stage one, home of the original Knight Rider series, has gone through some major renovations to make way for the new Tonight Show starring Conan O’Brien.

For many who still work at Universal, the old stage holds a lot of memories. Steve Whiteside, the propmaster for both the original series and the new recalls,

“Stage one is where not only KNIGHT RIDER was filmed, but also where the Michael Knight wannabes did their film tests.”

Whiteside takes pride in the fact that he helped the shows star, David Hasselhoff, land the once in a lifetime roll by giving him the inside scoop on what his prop watch would be used for. Thanks to Steve, Hasselhoff had several more minutes to practice the trademark pose with the watch before auditioning on stage one that day.

Check out the time laps below of stage one’s transformation.
